A tale that began in the picturesque coastal town in the Deep South of Charleston, has led many crossed paths to the dark shadows of the City That Never Sleeps. From the age of 3, Asher Rose wanted to be a dancer. As he grew older, he set his sights on the prestigious performing arts college in New York City, Juilliard. He became so focused on that goal that his talent for fashion and design somewhat fell by the wayside into a mere hobby, and along with his high school sweetheart, Brodie Jay Bradford, had dreams of escaping the somewhat small town mindset of where they grew up. Asher didn't have an easy upbringing. He was raised by his single mother after losing his beloved father to cancer when he was eight years old. He was 'different' compared to the run of the mill high school kid, having fierce ambition and a determination to hold his head high after being bullied and belittled in school for being openly gay and borderline effeminate. When he met Brodie, a new kid newly moved to town from Portland, Oregon and one year younger than Asher, it was the first time in his life he ever felt like he had a kindred spirit...

They were each other's first loves, and initially, the romance never wavered. They were so different, Brodie a studious but fun-loving guy with a love of music and an urge to make it on Broadway as an actor. Despite their different personalities, they connected through mutual interests and the romance blossomed. But when Asher received the crushing news that he hadn't gotten into Juilliard, something inside him changed just a little bit and it became all-encompassing for him to succeed and show all the people who judged him and never gave him a chance that he didn't need them to make it to the top. He went to New York anyway, leaving the love of his life behind to finish his final year of high school. The distance worked for a little while, but when Asher's attention became solely focused on his ambition and less on his relationship with Brodie, cracks started to show and the relationship became strained. Asher, scorned over his Juilliard loss, threw all interest in becoming a dancer out the window and fashion design became his new niche... and it turns out it's where his true talent lay all along.

Portfolio in hand, after starting as a tiny business running from his shoebox apartment in Brooklyn, Asher Rose Designs quickly ignited from his unique style and stormed through the fashion industry. Soon, he had soon established a name for himself as New York's latest upcoming designer and name to be wearing on the red carpet. His head spun in the cutthroat industry, but he thrived on it. Getting caught up in the fame and fortune, Asher let his relationship with Brodie completely break down, and when Sher kept forgetting to return Brodie's calls, Brodie had to resort to email to end the beautiful relationship they had shared. Asher was crushed, his head so far in the clouds, he never even saw it coming. He had taken Brodie for granted, and when Brodie refused to talk to him to try and work things out, having believed rumours Asher had been cheating on him with some gay socialite hairdresser from London, Asher's glitzy foundations started to shake underneath him.

He fell into a depression and he ached every single day from Brodie's loss. He couldn't cope, and it was in once again trying to call Brodie on his cell phone after an industry schmoozing party one evening, far too drunk and high on his first ever snort of cocaine, that Asher stepped out in front of a speeding 4x4 at a deserted intersection in Manhattan and suffered such extensive injuries, he was almost killed on impact with barely a few life breaths left in him. It all happened so quickly that no one ever really got the full story. But it was a mysterious stranger who had been following Asher home from the party, sensing the distinct and overwhelming misery in the young man whose talent he had become fascinated with... one Eric Knight, a Kindred from the Ventrue Clan who was with his lover, Logan, one of the finest Toreadors of his time. Asher and his talent were too prized, and Eric couldn't just let the boy die and waste such mesmirizing beauty. With Kindred lightning-quick reflexes, he rescued Asher from the scene of the accident, pulling him into a dark alley, but he knew Asher wasn't made of what his own bloodline was built on. Asher was stunning, and would walk the world as a Toreador only... nothing else would work. Panicked, Eric lost control and threatened his lover with death if he didn't rescue Asher, sharp Kindred claws poised against his throat in a frenzy, so Logan had no choice but Embrace Asher... and the rest is history.

Asher Rose was Kindred, and the world would never be the same again.

Brodie, on the other hand, never really recovered from losing Asher. He was heart-broken and crushed beyond levels he ever thought he could be. His usual free-spirited and fun-loving personality that was always filled with energy and enthusiasm began to rapidly deteriorate, and he lost his drive to do anything. Brodie's best friend, Caleb McDaniel, a guy who was his polar opposite in a an unlikely but very tight-bonded friendship, didn't know what to do to pull him out of the misery he let himself sink in. Asher was the love of his life, and he was lost without him.

Ever since he broke up with Asher, he had a gaping hole inside him but he had been so hurt by the way Asher let fame lure him and change him, that at the time, he hadn't been able to fathom their relationship ever going back to what it used to be. It was like Asher loved the fame and fortune more than he loved Brodie, and it had broken Brodie's heart. Shattered it into a million pieces, and he thought breaking up with Asher was the most painful thing he could ever experience. At least, until he heard the news of Asher's death, which was the story that made it back to his family and friends in Charleston. As far as they were aware, the "accident" had killed him. Until then, Brodie had been living in LA with Caleb. After breaking up with Asher, he was lost and just followed his best friend aimlessly around like a lost puppy. First it was Vegas where Caleb got work as a bouncer, and then LA with the same thing. Brodie went to a community college and graduated with a degree in music, but he never got the career he wanted. Instead, after they both moved to New York, he ended up in a boring desk job writing a music review column for a New York magazine that didn't even have the best sales. Before that, it was making ends meet by random jobs teaching people how to play guitar, or piano, or sing, but his patience and tolerance wasn't what it used to be and he had to throw it in.

Now he was stuck in New York, a location he had knee-jerk accepted a job in because... of reasons he would never admit to himself, and the only shining light was his weekly gig a a music bar, and usually he could throw himself into it and use that time to switch off from a life he was otherwise depressed in. But what no one knew, not even his closest confidante, Caleb, Brodie has a big secret of his own that has been making him wonder if it's even worth fighting to keep going on...
